Hotel Morgan

Venue

The Mor­gan­town Event Cen­ter and 300-space park­ing garage are locat­ed adja­cent to the Water­front Place Hotel and Con­fer­ence Cen­ter on the Monon­ga­hela Riv­er in Mor­gan­town. The large main event space can accom­mo­date up to 2,000 guests for a vari­ety of events includ­ing con­certs, plays, box­ing match­es, ban­quets and con­ven­tions. The facil­i­ty also includes a full cater­ing kitchen and sup­port spaces.

The site for the project is phys­i­cal­ly con­nect­ed to the exist­ing Two Water­front Place Con­fer­ence Cen­ter in Morgantown’s Water­front Dis­trict. It is adja­cent to the Caper­ton Rail Trail and the Monon­ga­hela Riv­er. The slope of the site requires the build­ing to be two sto­ries at the riv­er lev­el and one sto­ry at the street lev­el.

The design solu­tion posi­tioned shared lob­by spaces on the upper and low­er lev­els adja­cent to the exist­ing con­fer­ence cen­tre. Ver­ti­cal cir­cu­la­tion via a grand stair­case and lifts pro­vide access to the 2,100 m² of event space. The garage is locat­ed at the end of the devel­op­ment and a con­course pro­vides direct access for guests and vis­i­tors to the event cen­tre and hotel. Out­door ter­races on the upper and low­er lev­els pro­vide gath­er­ing areas with riv­er views. Back-of-house areas con­nect direct­ly to the main event space and include the com­mer­cial kitchen, ser­vice cor­ri­dors, stor­age and load­ing docks. A green room with a pri­vate kitchen for use by per­form­ers is also pro­vid­ed. A dec­o­ra­tive lat­tice ceil­ing pro­vides visu­al inter­est and access to a sophis­ti­cat­ed sys­tem of hoists for truss rig­ging, loud­speak­er clus­ters, light­ing posi­tions and smoke man­age­ment. The flex­i­bil­i­ty of the building’s infra­struc­ture accom­mo­dates every­thing from ban­quets to box­ing.
